Which Guitar Do I Recommend?

People ask me every day if there is a guitar I recommend for someone just learning. The best beginner guitar often depends on personal preferences and budget, but popular choices include Yamaha, Fender, and Epiphone for acoustic guitars, and Squier or Yamaha for electric guitars. I love any Taylor or Blueridge guitar if your able to spend $500 or more.

What’s Your Budget?

There are great options at every price point.

Another really important thing you must do is define the type of music you desire to play before purchasing. Make sure to try different models to find one that feels comfortable and suits your playing style. I chose to start on an Ovation guitar simply because the rounded back was easier to hold close to my body. I was not able to see over the base of the guitar on other models.

Whatever model you go with, be confident that you CAN learn this great instrument. As you improve, you can also upgrade your guitar to match your new skills. I tell everyone to never give up until you have at least played an expensive guitar once. The ease of playing on an expensive Taylor, Martin, or Gibson guitar is night and day compared to a cheap beginner guitar.

Also, make sure you hold the guitar before you purchase. I never like to blindly purchase online. You want to make sure you know what you’re getting with your investment.
